In addition to Programme Associated Data (PAD), general data may be transmitted as a non-programme associated data (N-PAD) or an independent data service.

DAB’s Broadcast Web Site (BWS) is - usually a non-programme associated data - an Internet-like HTML independent data service with local interactivity. The users select the information already received with a browser. This form of a “radio web” is based on the mark language HTML. A BWS is essentially similar to a web site on the internet. The objects of such a service are broadcast cyclically in a “data carousel”. The BWS is downloaded to the receiver and can be browsed by the users at their leisure. A BWS is interactive in the sense that the users can view the content in any order they like. But there can be, of course, no feedback from the user to the content provider since broadcast is a strictly one-way medium.

RadioScape’s highly successful RS220 series of modules combine a single proprietary RF tuner with an off-the-peg DSP, which runs the digital radio stack. Frontier Silicon extends its portfolio of mobile TV solutions with the launch of a single-chip receiver for T-DMB and DAB-IP broadcasts. The new IC (integrated circuit), called Paradiso 1T (FS1032), has been created using enhanced system-in-package (SiP) techniques, incorporating Frontier Silicon’s unique digiSHIELD technology, to integrate the advanced Paradiso multistandard baseband IC with a high-performance RF tuner and ancillary passive components.
The new SiP offers handset makers industry-leading performance, exceeding CENELEC (EN 50248) requirements, including power consumption of less than 140 mW with a significantly reduced footprint and component count. Paradiso 1T is sampling now and will be available for mass production in Q3.
