Trafficmaster Launches Its National Digital Traffic Broadcast Service in the UK

Trafficmaster, the UK’s leading provider of real-time traffic information, has launched its Digital Traffic Broadcast service in partnership with Digital One, the world’s largest digital radio network operator. The combination of Trafficmaster’s world leading traffic information and advanced DAB technology will enable navigation devices to receive more detailed and accurate traffic data including emergency incidents and road works. This will allow drivers to receive enhanced routing instructions and more accurate delay times.

The new digital service supports the full TPEG standard developed by The Traveller Information Services Association (TISA). It is commercially available to UK automotive manufacturers and portable navigation device providers.

Trafficmaster’s Digital Traffic Broadcast is also championed by the Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB), a trade body that has been set up to encourage digital radio’s wide accessibility and swift adoption in the UK.

Frontier Silicon Unveils Next Generation of Digital Radio

Frontier Silicon has unveiled a next generation of digital audio broadcast technology that will bring multimedia functionality and increased data information to digital radios. The company, which already provides technology to manufacturers including Pure, Roberts, Sony and many others, has developed a unique touch screen, full-colour audio-visual system that marks a major step forward in digital radio capabilities.

Frontier Silicon is in talks with several leading broadcasters and manufacturers about adopting the system, known internally as Advanced DAB. Its roll-out comes as penetration of DAB radios continues to rise, with ageing analogue broadcasting systems switched off in Switzerland, and ahead of the fresh launch of DAB+ in Australia. With the Frontier "Advanced DAB" system, Touch Radio users would have access to a rich-media EPG, slideshows of station IDs and imagery, the ability to tag and store information about songs and advertised products/services, and receive real-time traffic and transport updates.

PURE Announces Record Export Growth For 2008

PURE announces record export growth for 2008 amid buoyant demand from countries including Switzerland, Denmark and Norway. With more than tripled overseas sales in the year ending 31 Dec 08, PURE is on track to expand its international business further in 2009. Rising export demand coincides with the continued penetration of DAB audio equipment in the UK, already the highest in Europe.

Growth in digital radio is expected to continue in new markets this year, fuelled by service launches in countries such as Australia, which is adopting DAB+ technology from 1 May 2009. PURE is well placed to capitalize on the Australian launch, having recently opened its Australasian office in Melbourne. Roll out of digital radio services in other major territories such as Germany and France later in 2009 and through 2010 will further extend these opportunities. In existing markets such as the UK, where more than 25 per cent of UK households have digital radios, DAB penetration continued to rise throughout 2008.
